Challenge

Located in Seine-Saint-Denis (93), this data center sought to modernize its air handling infrastructure with an innovative, high-performance solution featuring low environmental impact.

The challenges included:

  • Reducing the site’s carbon footprint while maintaining optimal conditions for IT equipment
  • Ensuring precise regulation of temperature and humidity
  • Optimizing energy efficiency by integrating heating and cooling demands
  • Providing a reliable, durable solution tailored to server room constraints

To address these requirements, our team designed a hybrid system combining a propane (R290) heat pump chiller (ECOPS) and an air handling unit (AHU), delivering intelligent thermal flux management and unmatched energy performance.

Our Solution

Hybrid and Eco-Responsible Approach
System Study and Design
Innovative Architecture:
Following a detailed analysis of the data center’s requirements, we proposed a solution:

  • Using R290 propane, a natural refrigerant with low GWP (Global Warming Potential)
  • Simultaneous production of heating and cooling to meet site needs with optimal energy efficiency
  • Precise control of temperature and humidity
  • Intelligent airflow management

Synergistic System Operation
ECOPS-AHU Interaction:
The solution’s innovation lies in:

  • In cooling mode: The ECOPS generates chilled water to supply the AHU, which conditions the IT rooms. Heat rejected by the ECOPS is recovered for post-dehumidification reheating. This circular approach leverages the full thermal capacity of the system
  • Outdoor installation compliant with propane safety standards
