PATHE (69)

To reduce operating costs and stop using Lyon’s groundwater, our client asked us to find a 4-damper rooftop solution.

The issue

All rooms were thermally treated by air handling units positioned under the roof or in technical rooms in the basement.

Our intervention

ETT visited the site on numerous occasions to validate the technical aspects, check space requirements before and during deliveries, and provide optimal support to both the operator and the installer.

Key Takeaway

A great synergy was created between the various trades, the Engineering & Design office (GREEN FLEX), the installer IDEX, and ETT.

Our challenge

The project was complex on four levels:

  • Adapting the existing ducts in order to reuse them, bearing in mind that a standard heat pump has a discharge flow rate 1.25 to 1.5 times greater than the supply flow rate.
  • Bringing the heat pumps down to the basement.
  • Optimising the layout, taking into account the dimensions of the equipment and the space required for maintenance.
  • Reducing the use of electric heaters.

Our approach

Our approach to this project was to propose a solution with low running costs.

It would have been simpler to recommend large electric heaters and maintain standard-sized machines, but this would have considerably increased the energy bill.

This project was a real challenge for ETT, as well as for all the parties involved, due to its complex accessibility and the change in technical solution from the standards of the time. Taking into account performance, space requirements, energy efficiency and deadlines, and with a few compromises on the part of the customer, ETT was able to meet the specific constraints of this iconic site, which has been in operation since 1933.
Thank you all for your trust!
